Oily skin poses loads of challenges. And when you love applying makeup, it surely calls for extra care. Acing the art of doing-up your face is not merely about mastering that which is trending. It is as much about knowing your skin-type well and making wise choices accordingly.
At FabFit, we want you to make informed choices about beauty, fitness and wellness in general. We have compiled some tips for keeping your face oil-free and choosing your makeup products well.
Know the Products
To avoid excess oil from appearing while you have your makeup on, make sure that the makeup products you use are water-based and not oil-based. Also, it is best if they are non-comedogenic so they won’t clog your pores and make your skin blemish-free. Don’t forget to matte finish your makeup. It also helps prevent the face look too shiny due to excess oil secretion.
Key Ingredient for your Moisturiser
Applying a moisturiser after washing face is quite important. It might sound counter-intuitive to moisturise an oily skin, but face washes generally take away the natural moisture which is important to restore. So those with oily skin should use a moisturizer with hyaluronic acid. This ingredient hydrates your skin and balances the oil once makeup is applied. Apply the moisturiser with hyaluronic acid five to ten minutes before applying makeup.
This is the first step in having a long-lasting makeup. It acts as a base and protective layer. Choose a primer that is not silicone-based since it can be sensitive for oily skin and can also cause allergic reaction. If you are acne-prone, use a primer that contains salicylic acid since it is effective for fighting acne.
The best way to survive the day without getting your makeup ruined is to use a powder-based foundation. Apart from preventing your face from getting oily, it can also make your face feel light. As much as possible, your foundation should have a mattifying content. If you want to use a liquid foundation, remember that it has to be water-based and contains silica to control the oiliness. After applying foundation, let it set for three to five minutes before proceeding to the next step.
Right Face powder
Applying a matt face powder seals the foundation, giving your face a finished touch. It is more recommended to use loose powder rather than pressed powder since it is friendlier for oily skin. If you don’t want to touch-up with a face powder, you can also use a blotting paper to get rid of the excess oil.
The most important reminder is to remove the cosmetics at bedtime, no matter how exhausting the day was. Using an oil-free makeup remover is great.
