In her cover story with Vogue, Serena reveals that how an easy pregnancy turned into a life-threatening experience. According to her interaction with Vogue, she had to face some serious complications that followed after the delivery of Alexis.
Serena who is otherwise a healthy woman never expected that she would have to go through such a traumatic experience, that too while giving birth to her first child.
Her joy of holding her daughter in her hands after a successful C-section surgery was short-lived when everything started getting bad.
What went Wrong with her Pregnancy?
According to her statement to Vogue, because of her history of blood clots, she knew that something is wrong the moment she started feeling uneasy. Because of her surgery, she discontinued her medication which had initially helped her to keep the clots under check. But this time it was suspected that she might pulmonary embolism (a condition when blood flows into the lungs). CT scan showed that several blood clots were blocking her lungs slowly. Doctors carried out yet another surgery on the tennis player that took her several weeks to recover.
The feeling of giving birth to your first child is overwhelming yet very special. But for our star player sadly, it turned out to be a life-threatening situation.
Luckily, the team of doctors was efficient enough to carry out all the necessary measures on time. But despite it all, Serena stayed strong and recovered with good health. She did not give-up and endured each moment of her pain with an iron grit.
