We often build a life around materialistic aims; desire for a beautiful home, a great job, and a happy family resonates our image of a perfect life. Something we do not realize is, the cost we pay for this. We wager our comfort, sleep, and the sense of peace for what we call the “ideal picture” of a happy life.
This life we create for ourselves is highly demanding and we are constantly under the spell of exhaustion. The chronic exhaustion has its hold on us so much and most part of our life just passes by since we are tired or too preoccupied to live it fully. Even though we spent 8 hours in bed and follow the clock like an obedient child of destiny, but we still feel deprived of the healthy energy levels and sleep that is to our heart’s content.
The feeling of being under a heavy cloud can be accounted to many reasons like lack of proper nutrient, excessive exercise or limited physical activity, insomnia, anemia, thyroid conditions, gastrointestinal disorders etc.
Firstly, we need to spot if we are under the cloud. Following some common symptoms of being overtly fatigued:
Our brain needs energy to function and when it does not receive the same from a proper sleep cycle, it creates a feeling of lack of satisfaction, which is reflected in the food choices we make. If you find yourself constantly craving for food chances are the hunger hormone Ghrelin has taken its hold on the body and you crave for high carb, high-fat diet. Also, low sleep results in Cortisol production, which is fought back by production of Serotonin (the calming hormone) and the easiest way to this is high calories, comfort food.
Lack of Cognitive Coordination
When your brain is fuzzy and lacks direction, sleep deprivation and chronic exhaustion are the culprits behind this feeling. When we sleep well, our brain refreshes, clears the chemical imbalances and controls mood as well as the behavior. The decision-making power increases manifolds when you are well slept. Minor chores and management skills seem like a task.
Impulsiveness & Irritation
As mentioned earlier, a well functioning and rested brain controls our behavior and mood seamlessly. Snapping, irritation, frustration and anxiousness all stem from low energy levels and exhaustion. Also, you will find yourselves giving into your urges, temptations or making decision without thought because our brain in seize-fire mode where it won’t think much, but act or speak. This could give rise strained personal relationships as well.
Low Focus & Memory
Since are brain is working in low minimum capacity, it usually lacks the detail to circumstances or situation, therefore, if you trip often or forget those spectacles or keys, or are unable to remember what your partner told you yesterday, honey, you are exhausted and need to pause.
Medical Director of Take Shape for life, Dr. Wayne Scott Andersen, MD states, “You won’t retain knowledge very well, as your brain depends on sleep to re-process what you experienced during the day.”
Dryness & Dehydration
Our skin is the mirror of the inner mess or bliss. Usually when we are exhausted, we are usually dehydrated as well. Water monitors many functions in our body and stress increases if our body is functioning with lower water levels. Scaly skin, dry lips and eyes are all a sign of exhaustion or maybe the dehydration is nearing, which will give rise to exhaustion.
Now, are you exhausted? Why not take few measures to unwind and enjoy the ease of relaxation.
