The world is a merry go round we are buckled to it. It takes us up high and then at times, down low. The highs and lows or the ups and downs are a part of the game called life. And truly, it is our prerogative to be alive in each and every moment and witness it with all our heart. Our attitude defines us and paves a path for us. While happiness is an emotion, it can be a state of mind as well.
Happiness rests in the simple joys of life like a cup of coffee, a cozy bed, a breezy-rainy day, a stimulating conversation, a kiss and a heartfelt hug.
As individuals we spend a substantial amount of time on our work or health or fitness level, however, our mental health often gets neglected. The irony is, for a healthy state of mind, we do not have to go an extra mile into another neighborhood. We can be happy where we are, with what we are doing in no time. Consider these small habits or tips that you can incorporate to tap into a positive & happy state.
First things first, smile!
Yes, seriously, please do it right now as you read this post. Releasing endorphins (the happy hormones) in our bloodstream, smile sends signals to the brain that something good is coming our way. This little curve can be contagious and excite not just you, but the person sitting across the table. But we have to add, our facial expressions are not just for others instead they are more for us. Look in the mirror and smile.
Ditch the modern
Social media and smart gadgets are stress disguised as convenience.
It is scientifically proven that the sound of someone’s voice can be more stimulating than dry texts. Have you ever encountered a situation where the bland tone of the messaging system led to disappointment or miscommunication between two friends? I sure have! Just pick up that phone and dial a number. The best therapy is to talk to a friend and not text. If possible, work-out or work-in (meditate, yoga) with the gadgets at bay.
Sing a song for me
This one is rather easy and takes no thought, but a childish mind at play.
It is a tried and tested suggestion to just snap into a song or a dance move to your favorite beat while in the shower or in the car or in the washroom. Why? Why not? Please, just do it and tell us how you felt. It is that awesome. People might watch or consider us nutty, but we follow the motto, ‘people will stare, make it worth their while’.
Inverted we stand
Yoga is an art form celebrated by the world in its wholeness.
Offering us a myriad of benefits, this soothing form can be fun and challenging. If you have not tried yoga, do it. If you have, kudos to you! Semi or full Inversions in yoga put the heart above the head, which acts like a vacation for the heart. The blood circulation increases manifolds to the brain, making it a stress buster. Handstand, headstand, elbow stand, shoulder stand, wide legged forward bend A, B, C, child’s pose, the list is endless.
Some of the easiest ways to instantly spark a good mood is to call your mom, there is no better way. Her voice can stimulate happy hormones in your body. Or soak some sun, read a book or buy an experience instead of a gadget or clothes this time. Eat rich food and drink a lot of water.
