Cricket has been a bit out of the news in India after IPL. This stretch will not stay long as India visits England for a couple of months in action. Before that, a short trip to Ireland for two-match T20I series is slated. This will provide the Indian team some much-needed adaptation time ahead of their two-month long tour of England. An unusual of schedule, that sees limited overs cricket being played before the test, India plays Ireland for the first time in a bilateral series. The England series consists of 3 T20I’s, 3 ODI’s and 5-test series.
A Significant one
The Irish side who recently played their first test match against Pakistan, are starting to have games against top-ranked teams. Earlier, we got to see such competitions only in world events such as World Cups. Ireland would see biggest ever hosting opportunity against India. They would be willing to prove that they are more than just ‘associates’. With the Cricket World Cup scheduled next year, the limited over plyers of India would embrace the matches as a chance to prove their credentials. As it is to happen in England and Wales this time next year, teams would get ample preparation opportunity. The pitch is expected to remain dry than usual, as men in blue try to capitalise the occasion.
The matches to be played on Wednesday, June 27, at 8:30 p.m. IST. With a bunch of players to choose from, Indian think tank has a work to do. Regulars of the team, who are also part of T20 and oneday squads would like to get their temperament right ahead of the tougher task in England. Umesh Yadav, if picked up for the T20 Internationals, would play his first after a gap of 67 matches. Chairman of selectors Andrew White said, “Our deliberations were around finding a side that was competitive now but with an eye on future.” While the Irish side is to be led by Gary Wilson, selectors have recalled the off-spinner, Andy Mcbrine.
All in all, the series against Ireland is less talked about as compared to England. But it provides Indian players with the much required training and attunement with the atmosphere.
